JOHN WEIR

John Weir is a Senior Extension Specialist in Fire Ecology at Oklahoma State University, where he’s spent more than 35 years leading the way in prescribed fire education and land management. 

He’s personally conducted over 1,400 prescribed burns across the U.S. and helped establish more than 70 burn associations in 11 states. 

A passionate educator and author, John teaches fire ecology at OSU and has written several key fire management publications. 

His work continues to shape how landowners and professionals safely use fire to restore and maintain healthy landscapes.

LAURA GOODMAN, PH.D.

Dr. Laura Goodman is an Associate Professor and State Range Extension Specialist in Oklahoma State University's Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management. 

She focuses on prescribed fire, grazing behavior, and land management strategies to combat woody plant encroachment and enhance rangeland health. 

Dr. Goodman has led numerous workshops and trainings, authored over a dozen extension publications, and teaches courses on range resource planning and pasture utilization. 

In recognition of her impactful work, she received the 2020 Outstanding Young Range Professional Award from the Society for Range Management.

MARK TURNER, PH.D.

Dr. Mark Turner is an Assistant Professor and Wildlife Extension Specialist in Oklahoma State University's Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management, focusing on habitat management for game species like white-tailed deer and wild turkeys. 

Joining OSU in early 2025, he brings expertise in forest management, prescribed fire, and early successional habitats, aiming to enhance both game and non-game wildlife ecosystems. 

Dr. Turner earned his Ph.D. in Natural Resources from the University of Tennessee, with prior degrees from Auburn University and North Carolina State University. 

His research has been published in journals such as the Wildlife Society Bulletin and Forest Ecology and Management, addressing topics like canopy reduction, fire seasonality, and invasive species control. ​
